Location: Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina
My goal for the next year is to keep embracing all that life sends my way.
Here’s to as much family time and gatherings with friends as I can squeeze into the next year.
I am particularly excited about having everyone gather in Madison, Wisconsin in June for Noah and Leigha’s wedding! Yay for a fun weekend with loved ones aplenty that comes with the bonus of getting a lovely daughter-in-law!
Here’s to more dinner parties, walks, and weekends away with good friends. And to getting to see my far-flung family and friends as much as I can while also carving out the time for those at home. I value my friendships so much – both my individual friends (some of whom I have known since high school) and those we have as a couple – and my life is so much richer with them in it. We had so many fun, laughter-filled get-togethers with friends over the holidays. Noah introduced us to some great new games (QuipLash and Drawful) and hanging out in our living room playing with each other and whoever happened to be over for a holiday meal was a highlight of the holidays for me.
Capping it all off is our annual trip to the beach. I love our family tradition of ringing in the New Year with our dear friends on Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina. The beach is my happy place, and walking along it as the sun is coming up always fills me with gratitude for being alive and all the good things in my life. (A special shout out to the dolphins who entertained us along the way!)
Reflecting on the past year, I find that I don’t dwell on the losses and sorrows. I have accepted that those are inevitable, but it is what precedes them that matters. I am at peace with knowing that those I loved and lost knew they were loved. My hope for 2020, not just for me but for everyone, is that the good outweighs the bad and that love permeates it all.
